Eidos Making a Comeback: Can They Make It Last?

By Jason McMaster |

According to MCV, Eidos, the company behind the Tomb Raider and Hitman franchises, announced that their revenues were up considerably from the same time last year. In the 6 months leading up to December 31st, 2006, Eidos revenues hit £74.5 million, which is is £24.4 million more than that raised at the same time last year. On the other side of the coin, losses were down a reported £2 million as well. What could be the cause of all these good tidings? Smart business.

According to a release from the SCi Group, having 2 popular titles in the U.K. (Just Cause and Battlestations Midway), an earlier investment, opening a studio in Montreal and signing a distribution deal with Warner Bros. all contributed to this most recent success. As the company moves forward, they’re focused on new properties, first and foremost for the 360 and Wii, then the PS3 in a year or so. If Eidos can gain some momentum, we could see them return to their past greatness. Time will tell.
